Oracular Awareness #1

For this 1st installment of my new series "Oracular Awareness" I posed a question on several social media sites.

"The difference between Acceptance and Giving Up is _____________."

I'm blown away and moved by all the thoughtful responses I got in the comment threads on my social media pages. Thanks so much to all who responded -- I learned something from all of you!

Despite how different the things people said were, they all rang true. It made me realize that it wasn't a question being asked and answered on just one level. Perhaps, this kind of question is one we view through the lens of our own attitudes, experiences and awareness. 

For some the answer was quite simple, some of the one word responses received were -- "Love",  "Surrender" and "Attitude."

For others, it was a little more complex. One of the commenters on Facebook, Dom, finished the sentence I posed with this: "Control issues, acceptance really comes from knowing you don't have control, giving up results from failed attempts at controlling, a result of one of mankind's greatest faults--hubris."

As I was reading the comments, I looked over and a stack of oracle decks caught my eye. 

It occurred to me that they wanted to chime in on this query too.  So, I drew a card from each of them. 

The first oracle to speak on the topic was "The Crystal Wisdom Oracle" by Judy Hall. The synchronicity struck me when this card came up as Selenite was my "Crystal Guest" on "There's A Rock For That!" radio show last week! But, the answer this card gives speaks to our connection to the divine being the difference between acceptance and giving up. No matter how much certainty we feel we have, life is unpredictable. Selenite encourages us to connect with divine light so that we can better handle what comes our way. 

The next oracle to offer its wisdom was "The Living Light Cards" by Meg Blackburn Losey. It was in agreement with what a few commenters had said. Surrendering seems to be an important aspect of this.

Next up was the "Magical Spell Cards" by Lucy Cavendish.  Echoing the exact words used by several commenters. "Letting Go" feels like a gentler way of saying "surrender"...hmmm, but is it really... maybe that's another question I should pose!

The "Numerology Guidance Cards" by Michelle Buchanan had an interesting take.  Does our environment influence our outlook?  Do certain environments foster feelings of acceptance?  Do other environments make us feel like giving up? Hmmm...

"The Cosmic Deck of Initiation" by Barbara M. DeLong was quick to point out the "Law of Free Will" is always at play -- it's a choice that we are responsible for - whether we are accepting or giving up. A point well-taken, and in agreement with many comments I received as well.

Oddly enough, the final take on all this comes from the "Reiki Techniques Card Deck" by Bronwen and Frans Stiene which was the last deck in that stack.  Generally, I don't really use it as an oracle, but I decided to just close my eyes and draw a card any way.  The card above represents a non-traditional technique in which you choose a positive affirmation that you wish to work with to develop your spiritual connection. So again, the divine seems to play a role in whether we accept or give up.  In light of the question, I chose an excerpt of the famous "Serenity Prayer" and said, "I have the serenity to accept the things I can not change" as I followed the instructions for the technique.  I have to say, it was quite a lovely experience.

Keeping Up with There's A Rock For That!

I just created a new Facebook Group for There's A Rock For That! radio show. The address is https://www.facebook.com/groups/arockforthat/ it is an open group where everyone can stay up to date with the show, suggest future show topics, talk rocks and share pictures of their own crystals.  It's a brand new group, but we're already having so much fun on there!

The lineup for the rest of May and the month of June is amazing. This Thursday Christiana Gaudet will be my guest and we'll be talking about crystal mining and Arkansas Quartz. Christiana will share her method of working with crystals while they are still in the earth. Next week ReeNee Cummins will be on the show to discuss using crystals during paranormal investigations and talk about the "Legend of Pele" and lava rocks.

Catching Up with There's A Rock With That!

On April 3rd, 2014 I talked about crystals that are connected with the Angelic Realm.

On April 10th, 2014 Jordan Hoggard, creator of Tarot in the Land of Mystereum and Powerscopes, joined me to discuss one of his favorite crystals, Green Tourmaline. He also shared the ways in which rocks are a part of his work as an architect!

On April 17th, 2014 the topic was Medicine Bags and Magical Boxes. I talked about ideas for making your own and ways in which you can use them. I also talked about one of my favorite books "Healing Crystals" by Amy Zerner and Monte Farber. Clear Quartz was my featured "Crystal Guest."

On April 24th, 2014 my guest was psychic medium and energy healer, Melinda Carver. We had a great discussion about how to clear negativity from one's life and her award-nominated energy products. The crystal featured was Larimar.

Guardian Angels, Archangels, Spirit Guides: Who's Who?

Yesterday on The Angels Monday Radio Show, we talked about Guardian Angels and Archangels and how we may perceive the differences between the two. It was an interesting discussion. I got so into talking about Archangels and Guardian Angels, it was like my mouth couldn't keep up with my thought process!

We also took some fascinating calls! I am thrilled that we have created a loving place where everyone can share and explore their own angelic and spiritual experiences on this show!

There's a Rock for That!

I'm excited to announce that I will be hosting a new radio show on Rainbow Psychics Radio! The show is called "There's a Rock For That!" 

Whether for decoration, meditation, self-exploration or divination, I have found that there is "a rock for that." I love having crystals and stones around me in my office, my house, my pocket and throughout my day. I have used them to assist with health issues and for overall wellness too. 

There are so many books, resources, and theories when it comes to working with crystals, gemstones and rocks. You read one book and think you have a handle on it, until you pick up another which teaches an entirely different approach. For me, experience is the best teacher of all. That's why I'm excited to do this show where I can share what I have discovered and learn from others too. My hope is that through the show's chatroom and calls to the show, we can exchange ideas and explore the vast and wonderful world of rocks together!

Card of the Day for 12-8-13

Ok, so normally I don't post a Card Of The Day (COTD) on this blog.  But, it looks like I am not going to get anything else done today until I do. This situation seems to have started when I read a great blogpost by Christiana Gaudet.  I enjoyed the article and if you haven't read it, be sure to check it out. One of the things she mentioned were the benefits of incorporating the COTD into one's spiritual practice.

Now, I admit, I don't always draw a card of the day for this blog or even for myself. What I do is multi-card spreads with the decks I'm thinking of working with each day. Basically, this is to get a feel for which one's would be the best for me to work with that day. This may sound odd to some, but hey, that's just my gig.

Well, today there's was one card that I happened to draw out of the "Return to Spirit" oracle deck by Cheryl Lee Harnish which seemed to keep talking, even after I'd moved on to my other decks. It continues to speak even now, saying that I shouldn't keep this to myself because it's not just for me.

So, here is (apparently) the Card Of The Day that I should share with you all today.  I feel this card is trying to get the message out, to some or to all, that "you are WORTHY."  It wants to remind that, "you were, in fact, born worthy." Your worth does not come from anyone or anything outside of you. If you have questions, the answers are within. "Wouldn't you value someone with the same heart as you?"

Archangels, Attitudes and A Lot of Questions

I've been thinking about the way in which our angels communicate with us. What's their attitude? What can the tone of the communication reveal to us about ourselves?

Are they abrupt? Are they gentle? Are the signs direct? Are you being hit over the head with the message? If it's true that angels communicate in the way that best fits us, is there an extra message for us in their tone? Could something sync up with possible patterns in our lives?

For example, if the message we receive has an abrupt nature, can we then review our past and see life-changing moments which happened abruptly? If so, what does it tell us? Does that show a need that we have for suddenness or surprise? And, if a need indicates a lack, does it tell us something about our relationship to slowness or patience? And, can we benefit from examining how things motivate us? When I think of abrupt or sudden lightning bolt messages, Archangel Gabriel comes to mind.

What if the communication has a gentle tone? Do we have a need to receive news gently for the message to get through to us? May it suggest something to us about our relationship to harshness -- could there be an underlying harshness that's been part of our lives and should we examine its effect on us? Could that tell us that we may have a hard shell with a gooey center? When I think of gentle messages, Archangel Raphael comes to mind.

If the message is direct and sort of "just the facts, jack," does that indicate our need for directness? May that reveal something about the presence of vagueness in our lives. May we then discover some significance in the mists or patterns of uncertainty in our lives? And from that, can we feel bolstered by our ability to fly blind and land safely, despite how bumpy the ride? When I think of direct, matter-of-fact messages, Archangel Uriel comes to mind.

What about those messages that are very in-your face, that can feel like we've been smacked in the head with a frying pan? I was told about one of those by someone very near and dear to me. This person is an alcoholic. He has been sober for years and continues to go to AA meetings regularly. But, one particular evening, for whatever reason, he decided to skip a meeting. So, instead, he stayed home and ended up watching a movie about a drug dealer. As he was watching the movie and the characters in the film were boozing it up and getting wasted, he started to question whether or not he had made the right choice that evening. About seven minutes after having that thought, his TV suddenly caught fire! You can bet, he took that as a sign from above! Knowing him as well as I do, I can tell you that this is a man who has quite a pattern of taking things to the limit and being extreme in his life. When he told me that story, I felt that it was Archangel Michael looking out for him and had answered his question in a way that would leave no doubt in his mind and encourage him to stay on track and make the best choices for himself.

I don't have all the answers to the questions I've posed in this post. And, I can't say that what rings true to me will have the same resonance for everyone. I still have much to learn about angels and their nature. But, I do hope that by sharing these thoughts that I've at least given some tasty food for thought.
